Why check your candles?

Why check your candles?

Checking candles for toxins is an essential practice that ensures the safety and well-being of yourself and your loved ones. While candles have long been cherished for their ability to create ambiance and evoke pleasant fragrances, not all candles are created equal. Many commercially available candles contain ingredients that can release harmful toxins when burned, posing potential health risks to those exposed to them. Lilyfield Candles are never made with toxins. They are Phthalate free, NO Prop 65 warning, paraben-free, silicone-free, Leaping Bunny compliant and exceed the necessary "clean" standards by avoiding 5 additional main hazard groups- carcinogens, mutagens, reproductive toxins, organ toxins and acute toxins.

One of the primary reasons for checking candles for toxins is to avoid exposure to harmful chemicals such as paraffin wax, lead wicks, and synthetic fragrances. Paraffin wax, a byproduct of petroleum refining, releases carcinogenic compounds such as benzene and toluene when burned, which can have adverse effects on respiratory health and overall well-being.

Lead wicks, once commonly used in candles to help them burn more evenly, have been found to release lead particles into the air when burned. Inhalation of lead particles can lead to a range of health issues, including neurological and developmental disorders, making it crucial to avoid candles containing lead wicks.

Synthetic fragrances, often used to impart appealing scents to candles, can contain a multitude of potentially harmful chemicals known as phthalates. Phthalates have been linked to hormonal disruptions, respiratory problems, and adverse effects on reproductive health, highlighting the importance of choosing Lilyfield Candles instead. We specifically pick fragrances that meet our high standards of safety and thus, do not contain phthalates or have Prop 65 warnings.

By checking candles for toxins, you can make informed decisions about the products you bring into your home and minimize exposure to harmful substances. Look for candles made from natural, non-toxic ingredients such as soy wax, beeswax, or coconut wax, which burn cleaner and produce fewer toxins than traditional paraffin candles. Additionally, opt for candles with cotton or wood wicks, which are free from lead and other harmful metals. Lilyfield Candles's wicks are all made from cotton and are Leaping Bunny certified.

By taking the time to check your candles for toxins, you can create a safer, healthier environment for yourself and your loved ones, ensuring that the candles you burn bring warmth, comfort, and joy without compromising your well-being. Unfortunately, many people don't realize how dangerous certain candles can be to their health. At Lilyfield Candles, you never have to wonder what's in our candles. I personally hand-pour and create each one! I pick every fragrance to ensure they meet our highest standards of safety (ie; no toxins) in addition to making sure our products ingredients are Leaping Bunny certified. We want your experience with Lilyfield Candles to be relaxing and worry-free so that you can focus on creating a Life Lived Well!
